San Leandro Chiropractic Clinic, 10 Years of Practice

This is a 10th year since I opened my San Leandro Chiropractic Clinic. It seems like I have graduated yesterday and next thing I know ten years passed by like one day. Many laws have changed in chiropractic profession in a State of California. However, the only one thing that has not changed at all was the care for the patients that I have treated for different conditions throughout these years. Some would come for a simple headache or neck pain, some would come in because they have severe lower back, shoulder pain or traumatic injury. The list of the conditions can go on and on but it is not the point of the discussion in this blog post. What is interesting that the change was made for everyone who came through the doors of my San Leandro Chiropractic Clinic. At this point I am counting over 1000 digital record files that are stored in my system. In my opinion that is an army of people who were treated with my hands and got respond from a chiropractic care.

It never stopped to amaze me how simple the principle of chiropractic is and how two hands of a chiropractor can change the life of a person. I have adjusted patients who were just new born babies, including my son, and as old as ninety two years old. My current active patient is eighty seven years old. He is still playing badminton several times a week and travels all over the State. Fast growing body of a baby needs constant correction because muscles are not strong enough to support the skeletal stracture. Many times I have seen patients coming to my San Leandro Chiropractic Clinic as the last resort because many other medical care professional failed to find the CAUSE of the problem. Yes, the principle of the profession is to find the CAUSE and the symptoms will disappear. The body has an amazing ability to heal itself.

I still remember the time when I was at my student clinic at Life Chiropractic College West. The program at school gave us fifteen months to finish all student clinic prerequisites and I finished mine in nine month. I guess my passion to a profession was reflected in those patients who had seen in me at a student clinic. I could have waited for six months doing nothing, graduate and move back to New York State. Yes, I made a trip in 1997, across the country and have reached Los Angeles in four days. Instead, I have decided to take one step farther and began a preceptor ship with a licensed chiropractor in San Leandro. I have transferred my patients from my student clinic into what has become San Leandro Chiropractic Clinic or  Burt Chiropractic. Spinal screening at Bay Fair Bart Station brought in quite few patients and allow me to build a small practice that was paying my bills when I have graduated in 2001. I guess my hard work paid off and that is why I currently enjoy my life with my family in San Francisco Bay Area with its unique climate that so many people adore. If you find this post on Google search engine and live in the area feel free to stop by my San Leandro Chiropractic Clinic and say Hi. I am always happy to see new faces and answer any health related questions. Oh, yes, there no charge for it 🙂

Ways To Deal With Anxiety

June 16, 2011 by drburt

ANXIETYModern American life is very stressful and many people start a new day with anxiety.  So, what is anxiety? According to wikipedia: anxiety is a psychological and physiological state characterized by somatic, emotional, cognitive and behavioral components. The root meaning of the word anxiety is “to vex or trouble”, in ether the absence or presence of psychological stress, it can create feelings of fear, worry uneasiness and dread. This condition is considered to be a normal reaction to a stressor. It may help a person to deal with a difficult situation by prompting one to cope with it. When this condition is to excessive, it may fall under the classification of anxiety disorder.

Dealing with anxiety is best done before it reaches the breakdown pint. Those who have advanced stage will have to find a professional help. However, most of the people can cope with this condition on their own.

SLEEP:

My teacher used to say: “Sleep is your weapon.” If one lacks it on a regular bases it is impossible to concentrate on important daily tasks. A good night sleep is very important for the body to regenerate the nervous system after a long and stressful day and it also helps to rest other important physiological processes that are taking place in our body. Our body has its own physiological clock and it likes to keep sleeping and eating habits at the same time. This will allow the body to run smoothly. It is imperative that you do these two essential things at the same time as much as possible.

FOOD:

Stay away from foods that contain too much sugar and too much sodium. These foods will cause inflammation process in your body. Have you ever seen people with swollen faces? Guess what – it is the diet that is responsible for it. Consume anti-inflammatory diet full of low sugar  and sodium foods, vegetables, omega-3s, plant based protein – almond, walnuts and many other nuts will do the job. These foods will help to keep the mood stable and blood sugar level in check.

EXERCISE:

It is not a secret that one must have vigorous cardiovascular exercise at least three times a week for 30 minutes. It will help excrete excess toxins from your body. Exercise will stimulate production of endorphins in your body and is an awesome way to de-stress. If time is the limiting factor try to walk around your office. One must find time to exercise. Keeping this schedule on regular bases will add years to a healthy and productive lifestyle.

STRETCHING:

As you age, the muscles in your body tighten and range of motion in the joints can be minimized. This can put a damper on active lifestyle and even hinder day-to-day, normal motions. Tasks that used to be simple, such as zipping up a dress or reaching for a can off the top shelf, now becomes extremely difficult. A regular stretching program can help lengthen your muscles and make daily living activities easier. Performing stretching on daily bases is very important and will help to cope with anxiety. It does not take much time and will provide a great benefit for your body and mind.

Below are some benefits

  • Reduced muscle tension
  • Increased range of motion
  • Enhanced muscle coordination
  • Increased blood circulation
  • Increased energy level

MUSIC:

A study from University of Michigan proves that music therapy relieves health anxiety. One must use this tool if music brings the joy to a life. Find music that matches your mood. Music can support you through a multitude of emotions.

Prescriptions for Children or Conservative Care

May 6, 2011 by drburt

CHILDRENChildren in the USA becoming more and more drug dependent – I am talking about the legal kind of drugs. Pediatricians and Medical practitioners are prescribing drugs for different childhood conditions more then ever before. Many of these prescriptions have no positive effect on a condition that a child might have. Many conditions could have been resolved without any involvement of prescription medication and treated naturally. The truth is that there is a big pharmacological industry that has relationship with doctors who prescribe those medications. Yes, it is money driven medicine. The more medications pushed to a consumer the larger the compensation. Many of these drugs are not even safe to take, for a simple reason that there is not enough research done.  No one wants a child to be a guinea pig to find out weather a particular drug works or  not.

Chiropractic care is a natural and safe way for many pediatric conditions. You can always load your child with drugs which in most cases will only treat the symptom but not the cause. Chiropractic care allows the body to heal itself naturally. That means using conservative treatment options such as nutrition, diet, lifestyle changes and chiropractic adjustments first, rather than medications:

Barack Obama Letter About Chiropractic Care

March 4, 2011 by drburt

BARACK OBAMADear Friends:

Doctors of chiropractic now make up over 60,000 licensed professionals in all fifty states, and care for millions of Americans every year.  Almost a quarter of Iowans receivequality chiropractic care every year.  As you know, chiropractic care is low-cost, drugfree, noninvasive, and has been shown to have a positive impact on patients’ health.  I believe steps should be taken to acknowledge the important care chiropractors provide, and knock down unreasonable barriers of access and discriminatory insurance coverage that stand between so many patients and the care they need.

I have a plan to support doctors of chiropractic.  First, I support expanding the range of chiropractic services covered by Medicare.  Medicare currently provides reimbursement only for chiropractic adjustments, even though doctors of chiropractic are trained and licensed in all fifty states to provide a range of other Medicare-covered services.  I support reimbursement reform that will reward and reimburse those who deliver high quality care and whose patients achieve good health outcomes, without restrictions against chiropractors or other health care professionals licensed to provide such care. Second, I recognize that neither the Department of Veterans Affairs nor the Department of Defense has achieved full integration of the services of doctors of chiropractic into their health systems despite direction from Congress.  I support careful examination into the policy and practical barriers that restrict access to such services in order to remedy this problem. Third, I support commissioning doctors of chiropractic as officers in the Uniformed Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service.  The U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps is comprised of approximately 6,000 public health professionals dedicated to delivering the nation’s public health promotion and disease prevention programs and advancing public health science.  Given the critical role that doctors of chiropractic serve in each of these functions, I believe that we should commission chiropractors as officers in the Uniformed Corps. Finally, under the universal health care plan I have proposed, Americans will have access to a public insurance plan that will include comprehensive coverage, including all essential health care benefits.  Benefits that are evidence-based or meet the current accepted standard of care would be eligible for coverage, and as such many, if not all, chiropractic services provided by doctors of chiropractic would be included in the public benefit package. My health plan also prioritizes preventive care, and chiropractors play a significant role in this effort.  As we shift our health care delivery system towards a culture of wellness and disease prevention, I believe that chiropractors must play an integral role in expanding access to preventive care and strengthening our public health system. I look forward to discussing these important issues with you over the course of the next several months.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama
